
CCY13 - Cairns to Cape York.
Duration: 13 Days, 12 Nights
Depart Brisbane for your flight to Cairns. On arrival in Cairns Airport you are met by your Australian
Wilderness Tours host and transferred to the Hotel Cairns. Relax for the remainder of the afternoon and enjoy
the sites of the Cairns CBD.
Overnight: Hotel Cairns, CAIRNS (DBB)
Pick up from The Hotel Cairns at 7.30am. We first head along the picturesque coastline to Port
Douglas for some sightseeing and grand views from the lookout. We then travel onwards to Mossman
Gorge where we enjoy a walk in the first section of the Daintree World Heritage National Park.
Continuing on to the Daintree River we cross on the car ferry and visit the Daintree Discovery
Centre for an educational tour and a picnic lunch.
During the afternoon discover more hidden corners of the Daintree including Noah's Creek Mangrove
and Rainforest Boardwalk.
We head along the 4WD only accessible coast road to Cape Tribulation for check in at the Beach House for our
overnight accommodation.

After a hearty breakfast, we head along the Bloomfield Track to Bloomfield Falls a grand
waterfall towers from the hills above the rainforest. Trekking northwards, we head to the
Lions Den Hotel for a lunch stop and then it's onwards to Black Mountain, an extremely unique
extinct volcanic mountain with many formation mysteries.
In the early afternoon we travel to Cooktown, the port of where James Cook repairs his vessel in
1770 in the Endeavour River. We take time to enjoy scenic views from the Grassy Hill Lookout and
learn more about the extensive history of the area from the Historic Cemetery and the James Cook
Museum.
Overnight: Seaview Motel, COOKTOWN (DBB)
Its early start from Cooktown as we head west to Battle Camp and into Lakefield National Park. After visiting
"Old Laura" homestead we travel through many fascinating river valleys and numerous giant termite mounds before
arriving at Musgrave Station for an afternoon break.
We continue our journey top Coen for our overnight stay in
guesthouse accommodation.

Traveling along part of the southern leg of the old Telegraph Track we come to the Archer River, one of the
Cape's well known obstacles. Then continuing our adventure to one of Australia's most remote area's we head east
exploring the Sir William Thompson Range and then crossing the Pascoe River, we head to Iron Range National Park.
As we enter the National Park, we see the spectacular Mount Tozer at the peak of the table range, before
descending down to Lockhart River a unique aboriginal community situated on the ocean at Lloyd Bay.
Onwards further north, exploring the many wonders of the Iron Range National Park whilst enjoying the dense
tropical rainforest being the largest remaining area of lowland rainforest in Australia.
We arrive at Portland Road at Cape Weymouth on the beautiful Coral Sea for our overnight stay. Enjoy a pleasant
evening at Portland House Cottages.

Leaving the ocean, we head inland through the National Park and onwards to more savannah land, country of
the Cape; to Batavia Downs and heading north on the Telegraph Track to the Wenlock River.
We then continue further along the old Telegraph Track to arrive at Bramwell Station property for
our overnight stay.

Heading north along the old Telegraph line track we visit Elliot Falls and after crossing many creeks we
arrive at the Cape's most famous river, the Jardine. Here we can enjoy another tranquil lunch site before
crossing the crocodile infested stream by ferry, then onwards to Bamaga and Punsand Bay Retreat for our next
three nights. We stay in air-conditioned cabins or tent cabins by the sea, in the most exotic setting you
can imagine.

A change today from 4WD travelling as we take a boat cruise across the Torres Strait to Thursday Island and
enjoy a guided tour around this small island.
The island is situated between Cape York and New Guinea. We return later in the afternoon to our little
area of paradise at Punsand Bay for our overnight stay.

The most northerly tip of the Australian continent, Cape York, is our destination. We celebrate with
champagne before visiting the remains of Somerset, which was established by the Jardines as the government
outpost for the Torres Strait. We spend some time at some secluded beaches, where we have previously sighted
dugogs and sea turtles. This is a particularly scenic part of the Cape, with lots to see and do. Later in the
afternoon, we return to Punsand Bay for our overnight stay.

This morning you will have free time before boarding the MV Trinity Bay Supply Boat for your journey around
the coastline to return to Cairns.

Day 12 - Wednesday 25th June 2008
Today we sail through the Coral Sea, arriving in Cairns. Return flight from Cairns to Brisbane. On arrival
in Cairns, AWT hosts will take you to the Hotel Cairns for your overnight stay.

This morning enjoy free time before your guide takes you to the airport for your return journey back to
Brisbane.
